Hair-loss Drugs’ Big Growth In China

Hair signs that indicate bad health

But since Shis return to China in 2011, the 26-year-old Shanghai engineers hair loss has become an issue. You will definitely stick out more back in China, explains the bespectacled engineer, who says he has a better chance of landing a girlfriend if he has a thick thatch of hair. Thats why after raw-ginger scalp rubs and walnut snacks failed to counter his receding hairline, Shi says hes ready to give Western drugs a try. Treatments such as Mercks ( MRK ) Propecia and Johnson & Johnsons ( JNJ ) Rogaine are gaining ground in China, where a full head of hair is a sign of health and virility. Sales of Western hair-loss treatments, most of which contain Rogaines active ingredient, minoxidil, jumped 90percent to 100.7million yuan ($16.4million) in the five years through 2012, according to researcher Euromonitor International.

A Look Back at the Crisis

It is nourished directly by the blood stream and any change in blood content on account of medication, hormones or lack of nutrients results in hair and scalp-related problems. Hair loss is nothing more than a signal of distress within the body. Once the signal is recognised and the reason for it determined and treated, the hair goes back to its normal pattern of shedding which is so subtle that we may not even realize it is happening. Hair problems cannot be ignored. If you notice abnormal hair fall, or growth, or excessive dryness of your hair and scalp and dandruff that refuses to clear, you need to contact a trichologist as soon as possible..

Tips to prevent hair loss

Sprouts contain amino acids, which are very beneficial to the hair. Also include fresh fruits, raw salads, leafy green vegetables, whole grains and curd in the daily diet. If the scalp is oily, or if there is dandruff, drink plenty of water. Add the juice of a lemon to a glass of water and have it first thing in the morning. Ask your doctor to prescribe vitamin and mineral supplements. Try to reduce stress.

Hair Loss – Home Treatment

This may be easier for women because inherited hair loss ( androgenetic alopecia ) causes a general thinning that is usually not as severe as it is in men. Hair sprays, dyes, and perms can help make the hair appear fuller. In women with inherited hair loss, hair care and the occasional use of grooming products, hair sprays, hair color, teasing, permanents, or frequent washing will not increase hair loss. But if your hair loss is caused by hair care, then perms and dyes may contribute to more hair loss. Recommended Related to Hair Loss See All Male Pattern Baldness Topics

The allure of heat As for why people love the heat so much, Benz says it’s partly a psychological response to sweat streaming from your pores. “People feel they’ve accomplished more if they’re drenched. It is very addictive; a lot of our clients can’t cycle anywhere else because they’re so used to riding in a heated environment.” Laurel Hilton, a writer and hot-yoga enthusiast from Mill Valley, Calif., agrees that once you go hot it’s hard to go back. “I’m addicted to sweating. In the heat you get a sort of exhausted euphoria. You almost feel like you’re floating during practice. Without heat, it’s just not the same experience.” After becoming acclimated to high temperatures, working out in the heat gets easier.

Exercise linked to reduced symptoms of depression

Exercise bike in use

The study authors say: “Exercise is moderately more effective than a control intervention for reducing symptoms of depression, but analysis of methodologically robust trials only shows a smaller effect in favor of exercise. When compared to psychological or pharmacological therapies, exercise appears to be no more effective, though this conclusion is based on a few small trials.” When conducting a closer analysis on six trials that were of higher quality, however, the researchers found that the effects of exercise on depression was weaker. Higher quality studies needed “When we looked only at those trials that we considered to be high quality, the effect of exercise on depression was small and not statistically significant. The evidence base would be strengthened by further large-scale, high quality studies,” says Gillian Mead of the Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences at the University of Edinburgh in the UK and study author.

Orland Park Resident Honored For Work In Diabetes Education

Suburban Chicago arrest photos

When she graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in human nutrition and kinesiology, Diaz initially hoped to work in physical training and therapy. But her first postgraduate full-time job, as an outpatient dietitian and diabetes educator at Swedish Covenant Hospital on Chicago’s North side, sparked her interest in diabetes education. Diaz subsequently served as nutrition director at a diabetes training camp and was lead facilitator, where she oversaw more than 150 training sessions in the United States, Canada, Latin America and Europe. She went on to serve as faculty dietitian at Insulindependence University, a leading authority in exercise and recreation for people living with diabetes. An active American Association of Diabetes Educators member since 2007, Diaz continues to collaborate with the San Diego-based group by co-hosting monthly exercise sessions in Chicago for those with diabetes.

How Cinnamon Could Benefit Diabetes Patients

Researchers found that people with type 2 diabetes who took cinnamon supplements had lower fasting plasma glucose levels compared with people who didn’t take cinnamon. The review also found that cinnamon benefited several important measures of heart health: It reduced total cholesterol, LDL “bad” cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and increased HDL “good” cholesterol. In the review, researchers looked at data collected from 10 randomized control led trials involving 543 patients with type 2 diabetes. These studies compared people who took cinnamon in a pill form, in doses ranging from 120 milligrams to 6 grams a day, for a period of four to 18 weeks, to people who did not take cinnamon. The most popular form of the supplement, which was used in six out of 10 trials, was Cinnamomum cassia, which participants were advised to take before, during or after their meals. [ 9 Healthy Habits You Can Do in 1 Minute (Or Less) ] “When we combined the results of all the trials, we found that in patients with type 2 diabetes, there was a benefit on blood glucose and cholesterol levels,” said study researcher Olivia Phung, an assistant professor of pharmacy practice at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, Calif.

Snoring A Potentially Fatal Problem, Doctors Say

Small Ways to Fix Snoring Can Make Big Difference

To spread this awareness, a public educational programme was organized for those who snore and have snoring related problems by KRIMS Hospital recently. Inaugurated by additional commissioner of police Shrikant Tarwade, the programme had eminent doctors of the city providing their perspective on snoring and other sleep disorders. Speakers included senior pulmonologist Dr Ashok Arbat, psychiatrist Dr Sudhir Bhave and ENT surgeon Dr Sanjeev Glohar. Dr Arbat warned that snoring can be fatal and needs precautionary measures and expert guidance at the earliest.

HEALTH TRENDS

According to a study published in the Journal of Neurosurgery, patients diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme on average are given 18 months to live after diagnosis. And while surgery is one of the most effective treatments for this kind of tumour, less than a quarter of those operations performed to counteract it achieve the best possible results. “Though brain-tumour surgery has advanced in many ways, survival for many patients is still poor, in part because surgeons can’t be sure that they’ve removed all tumour tissue before the operation is over,” co-lead author Dr Daniel Orringer, a lecturer in the University of Michigan’s Department of Neurosurgery, United States, said in a statement. The new approach, called SRS microscopy, helps through the detection of a weak light signal that comes out of the differing materials after they are hit with light from a non-invasive laser, revealing their chemical signatures. By amplifying this signal by more than 10,000 times, the researchers have discovered a way to make live multicolour SRS images of living tissue or other materials. As a result, the researchers explain in their new study, they are able to use the technique to discover a tumour’s ‘margin’, or where it ends and the healthy cells begin.

With that in mind, there are some simple steps that can be taken in order to curtail the act. First, one can try simply rolling over, snoring occurs when the soft palate is relaxed and the airways are struggling to pull in enough air to appease the lungs. When one sleeps on his/her back, it can leave the soft palate hanging over the top of the back-end of the throat, obstructing the air passage. Sometimes the tongue can also partially block the airway as well, causing snoring. Removing all the negative health risks is another way to avoid snoring as well. Smoking, drinking, and overeating can all attribute to one’s snoring habit.
